About Eighty-Eight Brewing Company

We have set up shop in Ramsay, the heart of Calgary's historic Brewery District.  


The Brewery

Besides housing our amazing team and two brewhouses, the brewery showcases tons of experimental beers only available onsite. We are happy to give free tours and always have lots of delicious cold beer on tap!

Wave Pool   (3.79/5)

A tropical inspired IPA that is more fun than a rec centre birthday party!

This gateway IPA is hopped with juicy, tropical hop varietals -- Amarillo, El Dorado and Ekuanot (Equinox) and finished with a yeast that drives the mango, pineapple and stone fruit flavours.

Ring Pop   (4.02/5)

We harnessed the power of a Norwegian Kveik yeast to ferment this beauty fast and hot.  The result is a sexy, hazy golden yellow brew that is a tornado of hops, juice and party.  It smells like a boozy tropical fruit salad!  Pineapple, papaya and melon flavours dominate with a nice touch of red berry provided by the Barbe Rouge and Mosaic hops.

Tiffany   (3.59/5)

It's Complicated.

Don’t let the scrunchie fool you, Tiffany likes to let her hair down. Bright pink with a sassy tartness, it's a dance off between our Golden Ale and red wine grapes. The result is a bone dry, crazily crushable, dangerous lover friend.

Good Morning Vietnamese Coffee Stout   (3.85/5)

So Much Coffee! Strong roasted coffee and chocolate with wood on the back end. Sweet but balanced. Moderate to strong bitterness from heavy hop additions and roasted coffee.

Fruity P.   (3.82/5)

Triple Berry Milkshake Sour IPA. Brewed with milk sugar and then soured with various lacto strains, we added equal parts raspberry, blackberry and blueberry puree to the fermentation and the dry hopped heavily with Idaho 7.

Hammer Pants   (3.78/5)

Get your dancing shoes on folks! Hammer Pants is a classic, double dry hopped, West Coast Pale Ale that has long been our taproom go to for being a delicious and clean expression of the style. Finally available in cans, this beer uses Amarillo as a base hop with heavy additions of Mosaic and Ella which brighten the corners and round out the prominent flavours of pine, stonefruit and citrus. The subtle bitterness and clean finish make this a ridiculously easy drinking go-to for pretty much anyone.

This recipe was born out of '88 love for humongous West Coast IPA’s. Its forward, aggressive and maybe even a bit brash. This is the bad influence. Go for it! What’s the worst that could happen…

Warp Whistle   (4.06/5)

Nearly two hundred pounds of locally sourced Alberta honey were used to create the backbone of this Honey Hazy Double IPA. Add in some amazing specialty malt from our good friends at Origin Malting and you have yourself a punchy, creamy and undeniably memorable jooos bomb! Mango, Orange and of course honey hit you up front and as you play it fades to just the right amount of sweet with low bitterness, and an ultra creamy mouth feel. This beer is magic and one we are hyper excited to share. Best suited for adventures, alternate worlds & hidden treasure, this whistle is going to take you places!

Power Wheels   (4.06/5)

Open this brew and the room will be filled with heavy mango, citrus and a touch of pine! Power Wheels drinks (too) easy, ending with a nice soft finish.
Brewed with the hard to procure Mosaic INCOGNITO (CO2 extracted hop resin), it's meant to solve the age old problem of how to jam in even more hop flavor without the typical pitfalls of going a wee bit too far, notably hop burn or grassy flavors.
Power Wheels, a hilariously hopped all Mosaic Hazy IPA with INCOGNITO, T90 and cryo Mosaic used through the entire process and then heavily dry hopped with Mosaic and cryo Mosaic. Should we say Mosaic one more time. MOSAIC!!

Just What I Needed   (4.31/5)

When @estbrew and @eightyeightbrewco get together, we pull out all the stops. That means using a brand-new Reverse Osmosis water system, a Hop Egg to dry-hop under pressure, and an old German method of naturally carbonating beer called Spunding! Plus we got to combine the brewing minds behind all your favourite beers to create a recipe worthy of this momentous collaboration!
Just What I Needed might actually be just what you need! An Imperial Hazy IPA with a soft, creamy body and pumped full of Cryo Pop and Citra, Citra Cryo and Citra Incognito hops. Your nose will catch the pineapple, mango, and candy right before your tongue grabs the citrus fruits and sweetness It sticky, bitter, sweet and big, the way it should be!

Dial Up   (3.93/5)

Dial Up has long been a staff favourite for its more balanced and sessionable approach. It has a slightly tweaked malt bill from our usual hazy stash, it’s more medium bodied, and it has perfect balance between bitter and sweet. Hopped at 10g/L with Hallertau Blanc, El Dorado and Cascade it has amazing aromas of passionfruit, pear and pineapple, but finishes heavy on the citrus. In short, it’s lovely and worth the wait.

Pick Me Up   (3.8/5)

Thank your brewers for this one as “Pick Me Up” was one helluva labour of love. To achieve max stout and pack in as much flavour as physically possible, we actually needed to brew the beer twice using 5 different malts, loads of flaked oats and then over 15 kg of lady fingers (note from brewers: Do you know how god damn light a lady finger is!!) This big grain bill provides a huge sweet body and layers of roasty flavours.

After the mash, we added milk sugar and boiled the wort for over 2 hours, which helps to caramelize the sugars and create a richer, thicker bee

Leisure Center   (4.07/5)

For Leisure Center we've used multiple types of hop technologies with several hopping techniques to achieve very high dry hopping rates, huge aromas, and juicy flavors while minimizing grassy notes and vegetal flavors. Technically, this hopping rate would be 3x bigger than anything we've done yet! 30 grams per liter!! This beer uses the same water profile from Pillow Talk and even creamier malt bill with several different varieties of oats. Then cometh the hops! We started with heavy whirlpool additions of Ekuanot Incognito, Citra Incognito, and Citra Cryo and after the whirlpool, we performed a DIP hop which is essentially steeping the hops before pushing into the fermenter.

Monster Truck Lite   (3.6/5)

This Pils is a little nod to those dad beers of the 80’s, but tuned up to be extra crisp and extremely crushable!

Brewed with 100% pilsner malt, dry hopped Italian style with Hallertau Blanc / Hallertau Mittelfrueh and fermented on a Northern German yeast to finish as crisp and dry as possible. This beer is ultra-refreshing with a super soft bitterness.

Electric Circus   (4.07/5)

Electric Circus continues our journey into the oat heavy, softer side of IPAs, so expect a very creamy mouthfeel with an approachable sweetness. On the hops side we are playing with some of the usual suspects of Amarillo along with Citra and Mosaic Incognito, but for this doozy we have a new player in the form of “Spectrum” Citra & Mosaic for dry hopping.

“Spectrum” is a liquid form of hops that was created specifically for dry hopping, in an effort to reduce the high amount of plant matter typically associated with absurd dry hopping rates.
Too many tropical fruits are here to count, but we get strong pineapple and papaya with a beautiful bounty of citrus too.

Sugar Shack   (3.86/5)

Brewed in collaboration with Beaumont’s very own Chartier,this ain't just any old stout, we pulled out all the tricks and then some! Starting with a softer than usual water profile we added loads of flaked oats, caramelized sugar and milk sugar to an already very chocolate heavy malt bill to mimic the velvety brownie base. To that we added cocoa nibs, salt, maple syrup, maple syrup whiskey, pecans, and Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla! We finished this beer with one (maybe 5) more maple syrup kiss. It easily one of our most complex beers to date, but honestly we have just been enjoying this one for the nice warm hug that it is.

Danger Zone   (3.9/5)

We are shovin’ into overdrive with a delicious new small batch westy! Danger Zone harkens back to the good ole days of West Coast IPAs, beers that sting you with a hop punch.
In terms of fancy big, boozy, bitter tech, this beer showcases hop hash quite heavily. Hop hash is a highly concentrated form of Lupulin (the acids and oils that drive flavor and aroma) that is captured during the processing of hops. In our case we used Centennial and Azacca hop hash to drive up the pine and citrus and then we finished with a huge dry hop of Azacca, Centennial, and Pacific Jade to double down on the dank and a bit of tropical flare!

Wet Bandits   (4.11/5)

Wet Bandits features a very large classic west coast back bone that is treated with loads of late kettle additions of Galaxy, Cryo Amarillo, and Cryo Mosaic. We upped the dry hop ever so slightly from previous Sticky iterations up to 15g/L with same combo which added to the rather forward aroma in the best way! Think extremely well balanced, its dank, oily, & juicy, with bright citrus, passion fruit and red berry notes. More fun than a van ride with the Kenosha Kickers, it’s a pleasure to behold and yes at 10%, you will feel it.

Double Night Gallery   (4.11/5)

Similar to Night Gallery, this beer uses a blend of Citra, Simcoe and Ekuanot hops, but in the case of Double Night Gallery we we also layered in incognito hops, cyro hops, dip hopping and double dry hopping to push the bitterness wayyyy down and the aromatics to legendary status. All your familiar friends are there; grapefruit, mandarin, pine, cotton candy, and peach, but if you can believe it they are somehow sexier than ever before!

Love Shack 2022 (‘88)   (4.1/5)

Back in the shack with our pals over at @cabinbrewing; Love Shack 2.0, a loving collaboration just in time for Valentine's Day!
Featuring more oats than a balanced breakfast on Saturday morning, a pillow soft water profile and a whole lot of mango, this version of Love Shack is one of our creaminess beers yet!
This beer is also our first time using Talus hops, which we find hits with the expected tropical and citrus notes, but surprises with a little coconut and pine. We paired the Talus with our beloved Citra hop (T90 & Cryo) to add more layers of tropical fruit. Dry hopped heavily with same blend and finished it all off with nearly 400kg of Mango! All of this in the name of love!

Soft Serve   (3.89/5)

This beer is our most oatiest hazy to date with over 50% of the malt bill being made up of oats. And yes, you will definitely notice the thickness of dem oats. For hops we opted for Cashmere, Sabro and Cryo Sabro with a very large dry hop of over 30g/L. To round things out even more we added milk sugar during the brewing process and let everything ferment on a big dose of vanilla. The result is a very smooth, quite dank and delightfully sweet potion that actually pulls more tropical than anything else. Lots of pineapple, mango and melon up front with a kick of citrus and vanilla to finish things off. It may not have sprinkles, but for a limited time the sundae bar is open!
