About Eighty-Eight Brewing Company

We have set up shop in Ramsay, the heart of Calgary's historic Brewery District.  

The Brewery

Besides housing our amazing team and two brewhouses, the brewery showcases tons of experimental beers only available onsite. We are happy to give free tours and always have lots of delicious cold beer on tap!

A tropical inspired IPA that is more fun than a rec centre birthday party!

This gateway IPA is hopped with juicy, tropical hop varietals -- Amarillo, El Dorado and Ekuanot (Equinox) and finished with a yeast that drives the mango, pineapple and stone fruit flavours.

It's Complicated.

Don’t let the scrunchie fool you, Tiffany likes to let her hair down. Bright pink with a sassy tartness, it's a dance off between our Golden Ale and red wine grapes. The result is a bone dry, crazily crushable, dangerous lover friend.

More than meets the eye, this multidimensional dry hopped Belgian White has citrus flavours from every angle. Transforming from lemon-orange hop aromas to real tangerine peel taste, you'll never see a wit the same again.

Fruity Pebbles   (3.82/5)

Triple Berry Milkshake Sour IPA. Brewed with milk sugar and then soured with various lacto strains, we added equal parts raspberry, blackberry and blueberry puree to the fermentation and the dry hopped heavily with Idaho 7.

Ring Pop   (4.08/5)

We harnessed the power of a Norwegian Kveik yeast to ferment this beauty fast and hot.  The result is a sexy, hazy golden yellow brew that is a tornado of hops, juice and party.  It smells like a boozy tropical fruit salad!  Pineapple, papaya and melon flavours dominate with a nice touch of red berry provided by the Barbe Rouge and Mosaic hops.

Good Morning Vietnamese Coffee Stout   (3.84/5)

So Much Coffee! Strong roasted coffee and chocolate with wood on the back end. Sweet but balanced. Moderate to strong bitterness from heavy hop additions and roasted coffee.

This recipe was born out of '88 love for humongous West Coast IPA’s. Its forward, aggressive and maybe even a bit brash. This is the bad influence. Go for it! What’s the worst that could happen…

Easy Bake Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake Stout   (3.67/5)

Brewed in collaboration with Pretty Sweet Bakeshop and inspired by their amazing cake, this beer is rich, silky and over the top with flavour. Starting with a heaping amount of oats and boiled for over 2 hrs, the sight of it coating your glass like icing brings a tear to our grinchy brewers eyes. To finish, this beer it was aged on candi sugar, vanilla beans, cocoa nibs and the perfect hint of salt. It’s big enough for Santa and all of his little helpers, and it's so darn tasty that you can’t put it down.

Created with extended play in mind, this table beer plays nothing but the hits. A clean pilsner malt backbone complimented by a bright Belgian yeast makes things crisp and interesting. A subtle spice and a light hop profile add just enough complexity to make sure you grab another and get to the B side.

Named after the infamous Calgary landmark, this Belgian Dubbel isn't as rough and tumble as you might think. Sure, it's a touch on the dark side, but look a little closer and you'll fine some toffee sweetness and a little dried fruit all tied together in a smooth round finish.

Happier Hour   (3.88/5)

Happier Hour is the combined effort of an amazing cast of folks who felt compelled to help during this unprecedented time of need. The proceeds from this refreshing pale ale will go directly to United Way of Calgary's Covid-19 Relief Fund, providing basic needs, community services and help for the most vulnerable.

This classic pale ale gives aromas of pine, floral and citrus with a welcoming amount of resinous and fruity hop flavour. It's very balanced, with very slight caramel notes. Make it a happier hour.

Unsolved Mysteries   (4.06/5)

Brewed in collaboration with the Last Best, this beer is a beast and meant to celebrate the best of the dark beer season. Its big, bold, and dark as night! So big in fact we had to mash twice in order to fit the huge grain bill! We also added a healthy dose of demerara sugar in the boil to add to the caramelization and help the abv finish just north of 9%! The nose is caramel, dried fruit and molasses and the flavor is rich, roasty and complex. It’s the kinda beer you want to warm up with on a cold night, makes an excellent night cap, and if its dark powers are abused, will certainly lead to hand talking and hyperbole. Its damn near perfect!

No Bake - Nanaimo Bar Imperial Stout   (3.93/5)

Canada's favourite treat, liquified. We added graham crackers during the mash of the already huge malt bill, we boiled it till sticky, and then came the Nanaimo! We added coconut, cocoa nibs, vanilla beans and lactose during fermentation to create a deliciously sweet and rich stout that packs a serious punch at 8.1%. It is amazing and it wont be around long.

Sequential Circuits   (3.78/5)

For the past 6 months we have been working on some Brettanomyces projects and we are excited to release the first of those beers today!  Sequential Circuits started its journey as our base Cassette beer and then we let it party with some Brett D for 3 months.  After that we added 45 kg of crushed Muscat grapes and allowed those to ferment for an additional 3 months before finally finishing off the beer with a healthy dry hop of Amarillo.  It was all worth the wait.  This tasty treat is bone dry, super effervescent, citrusy and tropical!  Welcome back funky town.

Lime, salt, orange. Just like a margarita.
Aged in tequila barrels for two months to add some smokiness. The margarita flavors shine through in this perfect summer beer. Put your feet up and enjoy!

Best Behaviour   (3.69/5)

The pursuit of the perfect session beer continues! This time we are continuing to play with Kveik yeast, but with a few extras! We started with a pilsner base, but to push the body we followed with a hefty dose of flaked wheat and some cara pils. For hops we used Bru-1 and Palisade to add some herbal and citrus notes and then added spruce tips and orange peel in whirlpool to push that nose even further. It’s got some upfront pine, some slight bitterness and a nice semi sweet profile to go with a curvy body. Its a super refreshing session beer!

Battlecat   (4.23/5)

It's no secret we love ourselves a good cocktail

When we were looking to fill our empty cognac barrel we knew we had no choice but to bring in the heavy hitters; brewed in collaboration with Proof, Battlecat was based on the classic sidecar cocktail! It started its journey as a base saison brewed with lemon and orange peel and was then soured with 4 different strains of lactobacillus before being aged in a Cognac barrel for 4 months. In the barrel the beer was secondary fermented with brettanomyces which added a ton of complexity and depth. The nose is citrus with oak and cognac, but once you take a sip the acidity plays up the pepper and stone fruit. It’s truly a beast and with only 600 bottles made, it’s not going to last!

Dial Up   (4.02/5)

For this pillowy juice box we kept things super simple on the malt side to really allow the hops to shine. A trifecta Galaxy, Ekuanot, and Cryo Simcoe were all added as part of a triple dry hop to channel pineapple, citrus, and peach flavours as well as a nice pop of sticky dank resin!

Open Swim   (3.79/5)

This lovely guy is an experiment in the  wonderful world of yeast! We decided to play around with our standard Wave Pool recipe but see how much more tropical we could make things if we let it party on a foggy London yeast strain! Hopped with Mosaic, El Dorado and Galaxy, it is a glorious dip into the fruity pool. Stone fruit, pineapple and papaya upfront with a nice subtly bitter finish. Cannonball!!!

Strap in for the funk

Next up from Funky Town is another riff on our Table Beer! We took the base beer and aged it with Brett D, then crushed Muscat grapes for a total fermentation process of 6 months! To finish, we added a healthy dry hop of Nelson Sauvin hops to compliment the wine flavours.  This Brett Saison is crisp as it comes, has a vibrant stone fruit nose, and finishes with a slight funkiness. It’s the perfect change up when you are looking for something a little weird! Enjoy friends.
